ISTIC has about 1400 students, 75 teachers and research professors, 15 administrative and technical staff on the Beaulieu campus in Rennes. ISTIC members carry out their research in two CNRS units, the Institut d'Electronique et de Télécommunications de Rennes (IETR) and the Institut de Recherche en Informatique et Systèmes Aléatoires (IRISA) and the INSERM unit, the Laboratoire Traitement du Signal Image (LTSI), internationally renowned laboratories. This very strong potential combined with an important turnover, linked to the scientific dynamism of its members, is a guarantee of the excellence of our training.
The ISTIC welcomes students from the baccalaureate to the doctorate with a very strong mixing: we welcome 300 students in 1st year bachelor, these will partially irrigate engineering schools as well in electronics as in computer science or will continue their studies in master. Many students join ISTIC after a Bac+2 level diploma (preparatory classes, DUT, BTS, foreign diploma) and thus continue their studies to finally integrate engineering positions in the field of information and communication sciences and technologies or prepare a doctorate mainly within our laboratories.
ISTIC also trains, even if to a lesser extent, within two professional licenses, technicians in the fields of embedded electronics in transport and home automation.
ISTIC is very sensitive to the rapid changes in the ICST world and invests heavily in lifelong learning activities (FTLV), whether within the "Complementary Computer Skills" master's programme, which offers a reorientation to non-computer specialists, or via the "Software Developer" technological upgrading diploma. At the beginning of 2017, we are launching a Bac level training on the development of mobile applications, without technological prerequisites and in a fab lab spirit. This training has been awarded the Grande Ecole du Numérique label.
